This book features aircraft of all types which have been preserved around the globe. The definition of the term ‘preserved’, in the context of the book, is a broad one. Aircraft recorded are either in museums, on display as gate guardians at military bases or other facilities, or have been kept in flying condition long after it would have been normal to retire them. Since most museums tend to preserve military aircraft rather than civilian ones, due to their history and availability, there is a bias towards these in the book. However, to balance this many of the vintage aircraft flying are civilian types. The book reflects today’s growing trend to preserve classic airliners in flying condition, one which many aviation enthusiasts resolutely endorse.
